you can always use afrin in a pinch for about three days. dries your nose up great if it is just a temporary thing.
The local steroids work very well to curb your symptoms. Flonase, Rhinocort, etc…
You will need a prescription for them.
The difference between them and Afrin are the side-effect profile, and also Afrin really just reduces symptoms temporarily… the steroid sprays are longer-acting and they work on the cause as well.
try nasonx. (or however you spell it)
i hate nose sprays, but when my zyrtec isn’t helping, narsonx does wonders.
(i have always hated flonase… but it works just the same)
I have had a runny nose for 50 years. Once, after receiving allergy shots (although I had no reaction to any of the substances checked) for about a year, I had to move and stopped taking them. I was runny nose free for 5 years.
I took Benadryl forever which really helped. Finally, I had an allergy test that showed the many things I am allergic to. Even with 4 medications (2 nasal sprays and 2 pills), my nose still ran. Finally I cut back to Claritin and am no worse off that I was with all the prescription medication – still have to keep a tissue handy.
If I don’t take anything for my nasal allergies, I feel slightly “off.” just a little tired and achy and icky. If I felt any of those symptoms along with a runny nose and my pill didn’t help, I’d start getting shots, but they are a real pain (get it?) After a while they don’t hurt at all.
Be sure to give the medications you start enough time to start to work. It may take up to 2 weeks before you start seeing the benefits. Your druggist can be a real help in this area.
Read everything you can about allergies, keep your house dust free (look who’s talking, the Dust Bunny collector) and cover your pillows and mattress with dust mite protectors. Wash your bedding frequently. If you work outside, take all your clothes off to be washed and take a full shower, including washing your hair. My allergist wanted me to wear a mask, but it fogs up my glasses when I try to mow or rake leaves. I just handle whatever happens with a tissue and my daily pill. I actually don’t see any difference between working outside and not when it comes to my allergies.
I react to house dust anywhere from no reaction to having to take that full shower after putting one fingertip on a dusty surface.

STOP taking allergy meds! They are damaging your body by drying out the sinuses and kidneys. LOCAL honey will work with your body to get rid of the seasonal allergies within a month and also stop you from coming down with colds and the flu. Nose sprays are very addicting-you won’t be able to breathe without them after a few uses.
