Claritin D helps relieve my allergy symptoms but I have not taken it at night yet. I have the non drowsy formula but will it keep me awake if I take it before going to sleep.
Both the drowsy and drowsy forms of cold and allergy medicines can vary how they affect each person. Some people feel no effect on their alertness. Others feel strong effects. In some cases people get stimulated by the form that is supposed to make them drowsy.
If you take the non-drowsy during the day and it does not make you hyper, you might try it.
Claritin D contains 120mg of psuedoephedrine sulfate. This drug produces effects similar to amphetamine, but less intense. I would not take it at night, and from my experience it keeps me awake if I take it at night. My physician suggests taking Claritin (not D) only in the evening and told me that allergy symptoms tend to be at their worst between 12 am and 2 am. I have found that one benadryl works well at night, and I take the Claritin D in the day, but only if there is accompanying head congestion with the allergy symptoms.
